The fight against corruption continues to produce results in Niger. In almost a year, the Commission for the Fight against Economic, Financial and Fiscal Crime (COLDEFF) has recovered nearly 12 billion FCFA in cash, bringing the total funds recovered to more than 74 billion FCFA since the start of its operations.
The president of COLDEFF, Colonel Zennou Moussa Aghali, revealed these figures on Wednesday, following a meeting with the President of the Republic, General Abdourahamane Tiani. This meeting provided an opportunity to review the commission's achievements, as well as the difficulties encountered in carrying out its mission.
According to the head of the institution, the announced amount corresponds exclusively to sums recovered in cash. "It is solely cash. Real estate, shares or other assets are not included in this balance sheet," he clarified.
On this occasion, the Head of State encouraged COLDEFF to continue its efforts to recover state resources embezzled from the state. He nevertheless stressed the need to carry out this mission rigorously, while respecting the rights of those involved.
Established on September 13, 2023, COLDEFF is tasked with combating the embezzlement of public funds, economic crimes, and practices of poor governance. Composed of 35 sworn members, it has broad investigative powers within both public administrations and private entities to locate illicit assets and return them to the State.
