Nigeria: Drug traffickers raid, several tons seized in Lagos

Nigeria has dealt a major blow to drug trafficking. In the space of a week, anti-drug forces seized several tons of narcotics during operations carried out in Lagos, the country's main commercial hub.

Cocaine, cannabis, and diverted medications were discovered hidden in shipments of food, cosmetics, and even aboard vehicles. The total value is estimated at nearly €6,4 million. Agents also intercepted a large shipment of opioids from India at Lagos airport, thanks to information provided by customs officials.

The port of Apapa was not spared. More than 2,300 kilos of cannabis were found there in a vehicle container. Since the beginning of the year, more than 71,000 kilos of narcotics have been seized across the country.

This new series of operations illustrates the increased pressure exerted by the authorities against drug trafficking networks, as Nigeria remains a major transit route for international traffickers.
