Guinea-Bissau: Parties have seven days to relocate their headquarters

Political parties in Guinea-Bissau now have seven working days to relocate their headquarters if they are located within 500 meters of certain sensitive sites. This measure applies in particular to the headquarters of sovereign bodies, hospitals, diplomatic missions, and military and paramilitary units.

The decision was made on September 14 by the High Military Command for the restoration of security and public order. No party is specifically named in the resolution, which is based on a law adopted in February 2026 regulating the establishment of political party headquarters.

The text tasks the Minister of the Interior with ensuring the measure is implemented. The authorities justify this provision by citing the desire to preserve peace and security in the country.

This decision comes as Guinea-Bissau prepares for the next general elections announced for December 6, 2026. It also comes a few weeks after the constitutional referendum of August 30, the official results of which gave the victory to "yes" with 70% of valid votes.

The political parties concerned will therefore have to comply with the new rule within the deadline set by the authorities.
