Mali: A new complex dedicated to Special Forces inaugurated in Sénou

The Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) now have a new complex dedicated to the command, training, and operational readiness of their special units. The President of the Transition, General Assimi Goïta, inaugurated the headquarters of the Autonomous Special Forces Battalion and Training Centers (BAFS-CA) in Sénou on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.

Built on approximately 15 hectares and entirely financed by the national budget, the complex includes several infrastructures intended for operational activities and the daily life of the military. It notably comprises administrative and accommodation buildings, a restaurant, a gymnasium, a parade ground, stores, and technical facilities.
The site also benefits from improvements in terms of roads, sanitation, water supply and fire protection.

The Head of State presented the insignia of the Special Operations Command (COS) to the heads of the two units. This command includes the BAFS-CA, the FAT, the Reconnaissance and Intervention Group (GRI), and the Air Special Force.
The Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Major General Élisé Jean Dao, stressed the importance of training, hardening and operational readiness for specialized units.
He also paid tribute to the soldiers killed in the fight against terrorism and offered his wishes for a speedy recovery to the wounded. He further reaffirmed the Armed Forces' commitment to working towards the return of soldiers held hostage to their families.

Through this new infrastructure, the Malian authorities intend to strengthen the capacity to receive, train and prepare units responsible for special operations and counter-terrorism.
