Burkina Faso-Cuba: Ouagadougou reaffirms its solidarity in the face of Havana's difficulties

Burkina Faso reaffirmed its solidarity with Cuba and its support for the country on the international stage, during a meeting between the Burkinabe Minister of Foreign Affairs, Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré, and the Cuban Ambassador to Burkina Faso, Enith Pérez Retureta, on Monday, September 14, 2026 in Ouagadougou.

During the discussions, the Cuban diplomat presented to the Burkinabe head of diplomacy the difficult economic and energy situation that her country is currently experiencing, which she attributed in particular to the tightening of American sanctions.
According to her, this situation directly affects the population, with difficulties in fuel supply, disruptions to the electrical system, and problems in the provision of health services.

In response, Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré assured the Cuban people of Burkina Faso's support, stating that Ouagadougou will continue to stand by Havana whenever it faces situations of injustice on the international stage.

Both sides also emphasized the need to strengthen solidarity and mutual support between Burkina Faso and Cuba. According to the Burkinabe Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this cooperation is based in particular on a strengthened ideological convergence since the MPSR II came to power in Burkina Faso.

The meeting thus takes place in a context where both countries intend to consolidate their bilateral relations and their mutual support on international issues.
