Seventy-nine private press organizations are sharing 320 million FCFA in state subsidies for the year 2026. Delivered on Friday, October 16 in Ouagadougou, this financial support aims to assist media companies in a sector facing operating costs, equipment needs and the demands of digital transformation.
Of the 94 applications received, 79 were selected, including 77 press companies and two media professional organizations. The remaining 15 applications were rejected due to various administrative, tax, or operational and distribution deficiencies.
The allocation of funds gives significant weight to radio stations, which receive nearly half of the funds earmarked for press companies. Online media come next, followed by television and print media. In total, 304 million FCFA is allocated to the beneficiary press companies, while 12,8 million goes to the two professional organizations. The remaining 3,2 million is earmarked for the operation of the technical secretariat.
Presiding over the check presentation ceremony, the Minister of Communication, Pingdwendé Gilbert Ouédraogo, urged the recipients to use the funds responsibly and to strengthen their professionalism. For the selected media outlets, the challenge is to transform this public support into concrete means to improve their equipment, working conditions, and the quality of information they provide to the public.
