Niger has suspended the export of super gasoline and diesel to prioritize supplying its domestic market. The measure is outlined in a decree signed on October 12, 2026, by the Minister of Trade and Industry, Abdoulaye Seydou, amid disruptions in the distribution of hydrocarbons, particularly in Niamey.
According to the text, domestic production of these two fuels must first meet the needs of the Nigerien market. However, in the event of a surplus, their export by the Nigerien Petroleum Products Company (SONIDEP) and the Zinder Refining Company (SORAZ) may be authorized on an exceptional basis by the Minister of Trade.
Compliance with this provision will be ensured by agents of Commerce, Customs as well as the Defense and Security Forces, authorized to detect and punish offences in accordance with the regulations in force.
This decision aims to prioritize reserving domestic production for the country's consumers.
