The Nigerien government has suspended, for fifteen days, the marketing activities of 36 economic operators accused of concealing significant quantities of cement. This decision comes as the state is selling a ton of cement at a promotional price of between 54,000 and 60,000 CFA francs, depending on the region, in order to facilitate access to housing construction for the population.
The measure, taken by order of the Ministry of Trade and Industry signed on July 23, 2026, is based on the 2019 law on the organization of competition in Niger.
According to the authorities, the operators involved deliberately held back stocks during this state-regulated sale operation, intended to make cement more accessible to households.
This initiative is part of the government's policy to address difficulties in accessing housing, particularly in urban centers.
