ECOWAS: Mamadi Doumbouya challenges the organization's sanctions policy

Mamadi Doumbouya is targeting ECOWAS sanctions. The Guinean president has questioned the West African organization's sanctions policy, arguing that it penalizes populations more than the leaders it intends to sanction.

According to him, economic and diplomatic measures have direct repercussions on the daily lives of citizens, affecting access to healthcare, basic necessities and economic activities.

The Guinean head of state is therefore calling on ECOWAS to prioritize dialogue and political solutions before resorting to any coercive measures. In his view, a regional organization cannot promote stability by destabilizing populations.

Mamadi Doumbouya also calls on the institution to return to its primary mission, which is to strengthen economic integration, trade, the free movement of people and the development of member states.

For the Guinean president, economic development remains the best defense against crises and an essential factor for peace within the community.
