Guinea: Conakry announces reciprocal measures following European Union visa restrictions

Guinea has announced several reciprocal measures towards European Union citizens following recent EU restrictions on visa processing for Guinean nationals. These measures include the temporary suspension of multiple-entry visas, the requirement to pay fees for certain official passports, and longer processing times.
‎
These announcements were made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Integration and Guineans Living Abroad, Dr. Morissanda Kouyaté, following a meeting held on July 24 with the ambassadors of the member states of the European Union in Conakry.
‎
During the discussions, European diplomats clarified that the decision taken on July 10, 2026, does not constitute a suspension of visa issuance. They explained that it involves temporary restrictive measures provided for in Article 25 bis of the Community Visa Code, which notably allow for a more thorough examination of applications, longer processing times, and the suspension of certain administrative procedures.
‎
The European delegation also indicated that these restrictions could be lifted depending on the progress made by Guinea in returning its nationals who were in an irregular situation on European territory.
‎
The Guinean foreign minister, for his part, reaffirmed his country's commitment to maintaining constructive cooperation with the European Union, while stressing that the fight against irregular migration remains a priority for the Guinean authorities.
