The training of defense and security forces is at the heart of discussions between Mali and Qatar. Bamako and Doha are exploring new avenues of cooperation to strengthen the capabilities of Malian forces, as security remains a major challenge for the country.
This orientation was discussed during a meeting between the Malian Minister of Security and Civil Protection, Major General Daoud Aly Mohammedine, and the new Qatari ambassador to Mali, Ahmed Turki AA Alsobai.
The diplomat reaffirmed his country's willingness to support Mali in several areas of common interest. He particularly emphasized training and capacity building for the armed and security forces, two avenues likely to strengthen the partnership between the two countries.
For Bamako, the challenge is to strengthen the skills of its armed forces and promote the sharing of experiences with foreign partners. The minister, for his part, recalled the cooperative relations between the two nations, notably marked by a previous visit to Qatar.
This commitment now needs to be translated into concrete actions. No training program, funding, or implementation schedule was announced following the meeting. The next steps will clarify the true scope of this Qatari support.
