Ten new vehicles have been added to the operational capabilities of the Gambian Armed Forces (GAF). Delivered on November 4, 2026, to the Defense Headquarters in Banjul, these vehicles aim to improve troop mobility and their ability to carry out security missions in the field.
The allocation benefits all three components of the army: six vehicles for the Gambian National Army (GNA), one for the Navy and three for the Republican National Guard.
This acquisition fulfills a promise made by the Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Ousman Gomez, during his 2026 military tour. In contact with the units, he had identified the lack of patrol vehicles as one of the difficulties hindering their operational effectiveness.
Representing the Chief of Defence at the ceremony, his deputy, Major General Sait Njie, officially handed over the equipment to the heads of the three services.
Through this allocation, the Gambian command intends to strengthen the intervention capabilities of its units and their ability to collaborate with the police and other security structures to preserve peace and stability in the country.
