A rift has opened in the cooperative relations between Algeria and the United Arab Emirates. Algiers officially announced the break on Thursday, September 10, 2026, on public television.
The People's Democratic Republic says it took this decision "after exhausting all means of preserving bilateral relations".
This decision, explains the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is the consequence of a series of "provocative and hostile" actions that the authorities in Algiers attribute to the United Arab Emirates.
According to the same source, the ambassador of the United Arab Emirates was received on Thursday, September 10, 2026, where he was formally notified of the decision. He was reportedly given 48 hours to comply.
