Burkina Faso: The police are preparing their officers for new responsibilities

At the Pabré Police Academy, 2,364 officers began a training session on Monday, August 31, 2026, designed to support their professional development. The initiative is for personnel listed on the promotion roster, prior to their potential advancement to a higher rank.

The participants include 92 commissaries, 304 officers and 1,968 non-commissioned officers. All are taking part in this training, which aims in particular to strengthen their knowledge and professional skills.

This process is in line with the rules governing advancement within the National Police. Seniority, merit, discipline, and professional skills are among the criteria taken into account in this career progression.

Beyond the individual development of officers, the training aims to better prepare those who will be called upon to assume new responsibilities. For the National Police, continuous capacity building should contribute to improving the quality of public security services.

The session is also unprecedented in that it brings together, for the first time, the different categories of police officers concerned by the advancement table in the same training framework.
