Training, support, and new opportunities: cooperation between Burkina Faso and Russia now aims to focus more on youth. The two countries are exploring new avenues to leverage sport and youth training as drivers of development and exchange.
The issue was at the center of discussions on Tuesday, August 18, 2026 in Ouagadougou, between the Minister of Sports, Youth and Employment, Annick Pikbougoum/Zingue Ouattara, and the Russian Ambassador to Burkina Faso, Igor Martynov.
Among the avenues explored, strengthening training programs for young people is a key focus. Support for youth organizations is also discussed, enabling them to better fulfill their role in guiding and involving young people in social life and development.
This desire to give more substance to the Russian-Burkinabe partnership comes as preparations continue for the first session of the intergovernmental commission between the two countries. This framework should allow for the identification and structuring of projects likely to strengthen cooperation in several areas.
For Ambassador Igor Martynov, investing in youth means preparing for the future. From Burkina Faso's perspective, this convergence of views opens the door to collaborations that could, in time, offer new opportunities for training, exchange, and personal development for young people.
From the training room to the sports fields, the ambition now is to make this cooperation a source of concrete opportunities for a youth called upon to take an ever more important part in the building of Burkina Faso.
