Niger, Burkina Faso, and Mali are accelerating their efforts to develop legal and judicial tools to support the sovereignty of the Confederation of Sahel States (AES). On October 22, 2026, in Niamey, Nigerien President General Abdourahamane Tiani received representatives from the Ministries of Justice of the three countries to advance these joint projects.
At the end of the meeting, the Burkinabe minister indicated that the discussions had focused on the main legal and judicial projects underway in the three countries, as a continuation of the work carried out previously in Bamako.
According to him, the delegation received instructions from the Nigerien head of state to expedite the completion of these projects. The stated aim is to provide the AES with legal mechanisms adapted to its objectives of sovereignty and the defense of the dignity of its people.
This meeting is part of the ongoing dialogue between the member states of the Confederation, who are seeking to strengthen their cooperation beyond the sole area of security.
