In Mali, 20,240 non-compliant reinforcing bars were seized during a control operation carried out on October 20 and 21, 2026. The intervention by the Directorate General of Trade and Competition (DGCC), in collaboration with the Malian Metrology Agency (AMAM), followed a complaint concerning the dimensions of the reinforcing bars being sold.
According to the DGCC, checks carried out in several companies led to the discovery of an initial batch of 3,240 bars of 8 mm diameter, hidden in a courtyard next to one of the companies visited.
At another company, agents also seized 16,000 8mm bars and 1,000 5mm bars, all deemed non-compliant. These discoveries bring the total number of bars seized to 20,240.
Beyond the irregularity observed, the marketing of reinforcing bars whose dimensions do not comply with standards represents a risk to the solidity of constructions and the safety of occupants.
The DGCC announces the continuation of its controls in order to protect consumers and preserve fair competition between economic operators.
