The National Police checked 14,165 motorists for not wearing helmets between October 1st and 3rd, 2026, as part of the nationwide "Hard Head Shield" operation. More than 3,200 vehicles were impounded, and fines issued exceeded 31 million CFA francs.
According to the consolidated report from the National Police, 9,799 users were able to recover their vehicle after paying the fine and presenting a helmet during the check.
However, 3,231 vehicles were seized and impounded, primarily for failure to pay fines or for not wearing helmets. An additional 97 vehicles were impounded for further infractions, including the absence of required documentation.
Over the three days, the amount of fixed fines issued totaled 31,414,000 CFA francs.
The National Police, however, reports resistance from some road users to the mandatory helmet law. They announce that they will continue to conduct checks on the ground to ensure compliance with this measure.
Police authorities remind the public that helmets are primarily a protective measure for two-wheeled vehicle users. The National Police therefore urge citizens to equip themselves and consistently comply with the helmet-wearing requirement.
