Senegal and Egypt want to give new impetus to their bilateral cooperation. Presidents Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Abdel Fattah Al-Sissi expressed their desire, on Sunday, October 4, in El-Alamein, to expand their partnership into new areas.
The two heads of state held talks on the sidelines of the 8th biannual coordination meeting of the African Union.
According to the Senegalese presidency, their discussions focused on strengthening relations between Dakar and Cairo, which are based on several decades of diplomatic ties.
Cooperation between the two countries has recently expanded in several sectors. Egypt now recognizes the Senegalese Arabic baccalaureate, while Senegalese students can enroll in science programs at Al-Azhar University. Training for defense and security forces personnel is also among the areas of collaboration.
The two countries also share long-standing cultural ties. Egypt notably gifted Senegal a replica of Tutankhamun's sarcophagus, destined for the Museum of Black Civilizations. Senegal will also be the guest of honor at the Dakar International Book Fair, scheduled for October 15-19.
The two countries, which celebrated 65 years of diplomatic relations in 2025, intend to consolidate their ties and open new areas of cooperation.
