In Akanda, Gabon, behaviors that degrade the living environment could now cost up to 300,000 FCFA. The municipality intends to more strictly enforce regulations against unsanitary conditions, particularly regarding illegal dumping and abandoned vehicles on public roads.
The town hall relies in particular on municipal decree no. 036 of 2014 to strengthen the fight against wrecks, waste abandoned in public spaces and practices contrary to health rules.
This offensive, however, is not based solely on sanctions. The municipality also plans to strengthen the organization of waste collection in the various neighborhoods, with improvements to pre-collection and collection of household waste.
Residents are therefore asked to place their garbage bags and bins out at the designated times, shortly before the municipal services arrive. This system is designed to prevent waste from remaining on public roads or being dumped in unauthorized locations.
Through this dual approach, combining control, sanctions and improved collection, the city council wants to strengthen the cleanliness of public spaces and preserve the living environment of the population.
