Editorial: For ideological depth

By unveiling its Manifesto a decade ago in Bobo-Dioulasso, the Popular Progressive Revolution demonstrated, if proof were needed, that the revolutionary struggle cannot be vigorously waged by isolating theory from practice, unless the former is to be transformed into a "dead" doctrine. From now on, all actions would be linked to this Manifesto, hence the necessity of linking politics to a vanguard body. Those who possess firm principles and a suitable plan are the supreme regulators of the party's struggle, to which they dictate the execution of their plan.

In this endeavor to build a new Burkina Faso, vigilance is all the more necessary given that many Burkinabè have little experience in revolutionary matters and struggle to grasp certain essential issues of the contemporary era. This is not about "autocracy," but rather a process of guidance and awareness-raising to dismantle outdated theories about "broad democracy," which are incompatible with the class struggle.

Herein lies the urgent need to establish a party organ (especially since the imperialist war has also shifted to the intangible realm), a body that appears regularly (in our languages as well) and is closely linked to all the local assemblies currently being formed and to higher decision-making bodies. The results achieved by the RPP are already evident and amply demonstrate that it has fully grasped its duty at this stage of our sovereignist struggle, proving to some their inconsistency on the national question and to others the inappropriateness of their laxity regarding principles.

The party newspaper appears as a "collective organizer" and a channel for giving greater ideological depth to the revolution. The masses will never learn to wage political struggle unless we help both educated workers and intellectuals to train themselves to lead this struggle. The Manifesto is therefore the framework around which all the forces of progress and patriots must be gathered to build the common home in order and discipline.
