Our mission is simple, yet vital: to tell the story of Africa through the eyes of Africans, with authenticity, rigor, and independence . We want to restore narrative sovereignty and offer our readers balanced, verifiable, and useful information. This charter is our promise of credibility.
1. The Foundations of Our Journalism
We are committed to the values that build trust:
Independence : We work without any influence from governments, foreign powers, or commercial interests, guaranteeing total objectivity.
Transparency : Our editorial processes, sources and funding are documented to ensure the trust of our readers.
Objectivity and Rigor : We present the facts without bias, offering multiple perspectives to allow you to form your own opinion.
Narrative Sovereignty : We prioritize African voices and realities , particularly through local languages, to counter external and stereotypical narratives.
Respect and Dignity : Our content celebrates the cultural and linguistic diversity of Africa, excluding any sensationalism.
2. Our Editorial Line: A Complete African Voice
We cover African and international news impacting the continent, focusing on politics, economics, innovation, culture and crucial social issues (security, cohesion, development).
Field Approach : Our articles combine in-depth investigations , data-driven analysis (led by our Data Journalist, Pierre Ouedraogo), and human stories . We rely on local sources and African languages (Mooré, Fulfulde, Swahili, etc.) for authentic reporting.
Diversity of Voices : We seek to include all perspectives (youth, women, rural communities, experts) to reflect the true complexity of Africa.
3. The Guaranteed Verification Process
Our rigor is our best guarantee of independence.
Local and Multilingual Sourcing : We prioritize direct testimonies and primary data. Our correspondents use local languages to ensure the authenticity of the information.
Fact-Checking : An internal unit, trained to international standards, verifies allegations before publication. Each major fact is based on at least two independent sources.
Transparency of Corrections : In case of error, we publish transparent corrections within 24 hours on our website and social media.
4. Our Financial and Ethical Independence
We refuse any funding that could compromise our editorial line.
Ethical Funding : Our revenue comes from ethical advertising (we do not accept any advertising from governments or entities seeking to influence content) and transparent donations.
Financial Transparency : A public annual report details our revenues and expenses, ensuring the trust of our partners.
Journalistic Ethics : We protect the anonymity of sources in sensitive areas and require our journalists to declare any conflicts of interest. A right of reply is granted within 48 hours if justified.

We know that in today's world, trust is everything. At Nouvelles Afrique, our goal is simple: to guarantee you reliable, completely independent information deeply rooted in African realities. This document is not simply a list of rules; it is our commitment to you, detailing our rigorous editorial method and our uncompromising fact-checking process .
1. How We Work
Our editorial method is designed to be precise, balanced and respectful of the cultural and linguistic diversity of the continent.
The Requirement of the Field and Local Languages
Our strength lies in our presence. Our 34 permanent correspondents, located in more than 20 African countries, gather information directly from the source. We prioritize community testimonies and reports from African organizations.
Above all, we use African languages (Mooré, Fulfulde, Swahili, etc.) to access authentic and original information, often inaccessible to other media outlets. A report on security in the Sahel, for example, is based on interviews conducted in Fulfulde, validated by our local experts such as Amadou Boureima Diallo.
Balance and Diversity
Each article is based on at least three independent sources (reports, statements, testimonies) to ensure a balanced perspective. We always include diverse viewpoints—young people, women, experts, rural communities—to reflect the complexity of the issues, which are never simplified. We present facts before opinions and avoid sensationalist headlines or stereotypical narratives about Africa.
The Rigor of Validation
Each piece of content is reviewed by at least two editors : a local correspondent (such as Djamila Kambou on social cohesion issues) and a senior editor. Sensitive topics are reviewed by our editorial committee (including Boubakar Sy and Peg-Weendé Ouedraogo) to ensure complete impartiality.
We produce written surveys, data analyses (with Pierre Ouedraogo) and multimedia content (podcasts, videos) to address all audiences, particularly African youth.
2. Our Fact-Checking Process: Zero Tolerance for Error
Fact-checking is at the heart of our credibility. Our process is aligned with international standards (IFCN, Reuters) and adapted to African realities.
The Dedicated Unit
We have a unit of three permanent fact-checkers, trained in the most rigorous methodologies. They work with our local correspondents for on-the-ground verifications.
The Five Steps of Verification
Identification of allegations: We identify key facts, dates, figures and statements in each article.
Source collection: We seek a minimum of three independent sources (official reports, public data, testimonies) always prioritizing African sources.
Cross-checking: Our fact-checkers compare sources. In case of discrepancies, a field investigation is conducted to establish the truth.
Validation: If an allegation is unverifiable, it is removed. Each verified fact is documented and approved by a senior editor.
Documentation: Each verified fact is accompanied by its source (link or quote) in the article.
Human Error Management
We are human and mistakes happen. If you or our team reports an inaccuracy, a correction will be published within 24 hours on our website and social media. We clearly detail the error and the correction, because transparency is paramount.
